Screen To Screen is network screen sharing and remote control software for Macintosh computers. With Screen To Screen, you can manage networks, give presentations, collaborate, and more. Screen To Screen is the essential tool for reducing the time and effort in managing computer networks.
The Screen To Screen software package includes an extension (Screen To Screen Startup), and a control application (Screen To Screen). When installing the software, the Screen To Screen Installer automatically places these files into their proper locations. Please see the online Screen To Screen Guide for detailed instructions about installing the software.
The installer places the Screen To Screen controller application on the desktop. To run the software, double click on this application and then type the Administrator's name and password at the prompt. To use this software, the default name is “Administrator” and the default password is “admin”.
The Screen To Screen Installer also automatically installs the Thread Manager extension on pre-System 7.5 configurations. Thread Manager, which is built in to System 7.5, allows Screen To Screen to perform multiple actions simultaneously. Also installed into the Extensions folder is an extension named "Power On Networking Startup" and a folder named "Power On Extensions". These contain networking software used by the product.
Updates to Screen To Screen can be downloaded from our Web site at 'http://www.poweronsw.com'. The updates will be in BinHex format and product versions will require a valid serial number for their use. Updates may include bug fixes, new features, or performance improvements.
• Fixed a problem where one computer which stopped processing data would halt all other computers in the screen sharing group. In the current version, whenever a computer stops processing data it is dropped from the group so that the other computers can continue.
• Fixed drawing glitches within the Active Connections window.
• Save and restore the dimensions and position of the Active Connections window each time the program is launched.
• Now compatible with System 7.0 or later for all features except the Talk command, which requires System 7.1 or later. Previous versions required System 7.1 for all features.
Version 1.0.1
• Fixed a bug that would cause the screen to draw incorrectly when dragging a window on a remote computer during a screen sharing session.
• Decreased amount of memory required to share screens from 3MB to 1.5MB.
• Added messages to warn administrators when security products (such as On Guard, At Ease, or FoolProof) are configured to prevent Screen To Screen from working. In earlier versions the administrator would have been told that the computer was not responding without an indication that the problem was related to a security product. The new messages also give detailed instructions for configuring the security product to allow Screen To Screen to function.
• Improved the response time when establishing a session so that it is less likely that a computer will be listed as "Not Responding".
• Thumbnails are now sorted to make it easier to find computers.
• Added a dialog when quitting the Screen To Screen application while sharing the administrator's screen. This dialog asks the administrator whether to unshare their screen or allow their screen to continue to be shared. In previous versions, the Administrator had to use the Unshare This Screen command to discontinue their screen from being shared. Otherwise when they quit the Screen To Screen application, their screen would always continue to be shared, which caused some confusion. Allowing a screen to continue to be shared after quitting the Screen To Screen application is very important under some circumstances.
Version 1.0
We would like to thank our Beta testers for all of their assistance in preparing this product. In future releases, this section will contain information about improvements made since the previous version.
Screen To Screen works with all Macintosh networks (LocalTalk, EtherTalk, and TokenTalk), as well as Macintosh computers connected to networks which support AppleTalk (such as Windows NT and Novell NetWare networks). For optimum performance, only broadcast your screen to multiple computers within the local zone. Broadcasting your screen to multiple computers in remote zones can result in performance delays. Broadcasting your screen to a single computer in a remote zone works well.
Known compatibility issues with this release:
• Graphics drawn by some programs which write directly to screen memory may not be shown correctly. The overwhelming majority of programs work correctly, but some multimedia products including QuickTime movies do not use the standard mechanisms to draw graphics. Screen To Screen will be made compatible with these programs as soon as possible.
